Repair first, replace only when it makes sense

Most window problems don't need a new window. A misted unit means the seal on the glass has failed, the frame is usually fine, and swapping just the sealed unit costs £80–£150 instead of £400–£700 for a whole new window. A jammed handle or draughty hinge is a £60–£120 repair, not a replacement. The misted unit that fools people

Cloudy glass between the panes is the single most common window job on Teesside, the unit's seal has failed, moisture's got in, and no amount of wiping fixes it. The fix is a replacement sealed unit, measured and made to fit your existing frame: typically an hour's work per window, no mess, no redecoration. • Survey before price: a proper quote follows a look at the actual window, not a figure plucked from a phone call.
• Itemised in writing: glass spec, frame make, hardware and disposal stated line by line, not a single number and a cash price.
• Guarantee in writing: sealed units typically carry 5–10 year manufacturer warranties; replacement windows 10 years on frames and sealed units. Ask for it on paper.
• FENSA or CERTASS for full replacements: replacing whole windows needs building regs certification, the installer should self-certify through FENSA or CERTASS. Repairs don't need it.
